30 September bus network changes

The Waikato Regional Public Transport Plan was adopted in early 2015, and outlined changes to the Hamilton bus network.

These changes include:

  • Improving bus services to growth areas.
  • Increasing the use of transport hubs such as The Base to improve transfers between buses.
  • Increasing the number of bus routes that run seven days a week.
  • Some bus routes have been merged and resource allocated to higher-demand areas.
  • Routes will be simplified, making them more direct by moving to main roads where we can run more buses more often. This means that some local roads may no longer be served by buses.

From 30 September 2017, around half (14 routes) in the Hamilton bus network will have changes. The remainder of the network, focusing on routes in the eastern side of the city, will change in January 2018.

Changes occurring on 30 September include:

  • The 15 Ruakura route will be disestablished, removing duplication of routes in this area

New, or refurbished buses will operate on the routes listed below:

Routes will be simplified, and in some cases combined to make them more direct by moving to main roads where we can run more buses more often. This means that some local roads may no longer be served by buses.
