Meet the Hamiltonians who are driven to work, study and play...

Ann Sutherland

Ann is 71 years old. She is retired but is a volunteer at St John and the NZ Blood Service. She lives in the Enderley area of Hamilton and uses the bus regularly for outings and activities such as going to the library, shopping, getting to the Blood Centre, visiting friends and going out for coffee.

Ann has a car but chooses to use the bus, and her attitude is that it’s a great service, so why wouldn’t you use the bus? She likes that it gets you everywhere you need to go, and it saves the hassles of finding a car park. Ann has two bus stops very close to her home. She mainly uses the Orbiter to get around Hamilton.

When her grandson Le Roy visits from Matamata, they have a great time going on the bus together. They may make a whole day of it, beginning by getting on the bus at home, travelling to The Base or Chartwell where they have lunch and a look around. Then they will hop back on the bus again and perhaps head up to NZ Blood at the hospital where Ann’s daughter (and Le Roy’s aunty) works. There they say hi, perhaps have some afternoon tea and then hop back on the bus to travel home. Ann also likes to use the bus when her sister comes to visit from Christchurch. She thinks it’s a great way for them to see different parts of the city, showing it off to her sister and allowing them to visit lots of interesting parts of Hamilton.

Le Roy Sutherland

Le Roy is 6 years old. He visits his Nanny in the holidays and at weekends, coming over to Hamilton from his home in Matamata. Le Roy loves going on trips with his Nanny, and together they enjoy exploring different parts of Hamilton. Le Roy’s delight at being on the bus is plain to see. He and Ann have a wonderful time playing games, pointing out interesting things and spending quality time together.
